Parents, do you face any of these challenges with your teenagers? Skipping School? Drug and Alcohol Abuse? Verbal and/or Physical Abuse? In Trouble with the Law? Constant Worry? If so, you are not alone and there is HOPE for you.
H.O.P.E. (Helping Other Parents Everywhere)is an organization of parents of disruptive youth who are concerned about the behaviour of their children. They have joined together to offer support and to empower parents to deal with their situation. HOPE help parents deal with issues of family, school, the law, drugs, and alcohol abuse to name a few. Members benefit from contact with people who have had experience in dealing with similar problems. Parents are offered this support in a confidential, non-blaming atmosphere.
Members of this organization have been providing support to parents for over 15 years and have formed a non-profit corporation, HOPE, to bring that support to others in the community. HOPE organization is made up of volunteers and parents of acting out youth. There are 4 community groups: 2 in the Durham Region (Ajax/Pickering and Oshawa); and 2 in Toronto (Wellesley & Yonge and Yonge & Finch) with the intention to expand as membership grows. They hold weekly meetings, and provide 7x24 support to members and help parents gain control of their lives and their homes.
HOPE believes that “It Takes a Village to raise a child (African proverb), and it Takes a Community to Support the Parents” (HOPE 2008).
